Dealing with Jehovah's Witnesses

Talking with a Jehovah's Witness

Most JW's indoctrination into the cult will not allow them to even consider opposing doctrinal "proof". For example, they will cling their Bible's translation of John 1:1 (the Word was a god) regardless of the overwhelming evidence against it.Also, they rewrite history, so any attempt to discredit their previous false prophecies will usually meet with the counter-argument that there has been "new light" since then.I have had some success with them by helping them to understand that their belief is based on man's interpretation of the Bible. A good example is found in Rev. 14:1: "And I saw, and Look, the lamb standing upon Mount Zion, and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand having his name and the name of his father written on their foreheads." NWT This is a familiar scripture to them, and they will feel comfortable with it. But ask the question, Is Mount Zion literal or symbolic? (Symbolic) The Lamb? (symbolic) The name of the father written on their forehaeds (Symbolic) The 144,000 (literal!!) How do they know that the entire verse is symbolic except for the 144,000? In the end, it is because a man interpreted it that way, not the Holy Spirit. It is men claiming inspiration! From there discussions about their history and other false prophecies may get them to begin to suspect their claim to divine exclusivity. Its been my experience that if you can get them to start questioning the authority of their governing body, you've got a better than 50% chance at getting them out.
